Hot Wheels is a brand of scale model cars invented by Elliot Handler and introduced by his company Mattel on 18 May 1968; it was the main competitor of Matchbox until Mattel bought Matchbox's owner Tyco Toys in 1997.[1] Its basic cars are sold singly on blister cards in assortments that often share one UPC.[2]
