Dr Pepper is a carbonated soft drink brand created in the 1880s by the pharmacist Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas, named commercially from 1885 and marketed nationally in the United States from the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The United States Food and Drug Administration formally held in 1966 that it is not a cola.^[1] Ownership is split by territory: Keurig Dr Pepper holds the brand in the United States, while The Coca-Cola Company took most non-US rights after the Dr Pepper/Seven Up merger and Suntory distributes it across much of continental Europe.^[1] In the United Kingdom the drink is produced and distributed by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, whose British company is named on the pack.^[2]
