About Community Co

Community Co is a private-label brand owned by the Australian wholesaler Metcash and sold through the independently owned IGA supermarkets that Metcash supplies.[1][2] Metcash Supermarkets launched it as a mid-tier range at the end of November 2016, with products in IGA stores from December.[1] Wikipedia describes it as a mid-price line designed to match established branded products, beside Metcash's value label Black & Gold.[2] A contribution from every Community Co product sold goes to the selling store's IGA Community Chest fund, and each store decides which local causes receive the money.[3] The range reaches beyond food into household cleaning with the Clean Freak sub-range.[4]

At the launch, Steven Cain, chief executive of Metcash Supermarkets and Convenience, presented the brand as built around the IGA retailers' commitment to local communities, and Metcash planned 100 products within six months, starting in December with Australian bacon, cheese, oats, spreads, oils and bottled water.[1] The bacon was made from 100 per cent Australian pork from sow-stall-free pigs.[1] The brand's contact address is 1 Thomas Holt Drive, Macquarie Park, New South Wales.[5]
