About this product
Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C is a medicated sore-throat lozenge sold in Malaysia in a 24-lozenge carton whose front panel reads "Soothing relief for sore throats".[1] Strepsils is a Reckitt brand of throat lozenges, launched by Boots Healthcare as a mouthwash in 1950 and as lozenges in 1958, and one of the Boots Healthcare brands Reckitt Benckiser bought in 2006.[2] Reckitt's Malaysian brand site gives the core range two antiseptics, dichlorophenylcarbinol 1.2 mg and amylmetacresol 0.6 mg per lozenge;[3] the Vitamin C-100 variant adds 100 mg of vitamin C.[2] The photographed carton carries the Malaysian Ministry of Health Meditag security hologram and a Kuala Lumpur pharmacy's RM 14.60 price sticker,[1] and the barcode was already on the old Barcodepedia in 2007 as "Strepsils Vitamin C-100".[4]
RB (Health) Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the Reckitt group's Malaysian health company, is named by GS1 Malaysia's own Verified by GS1 search portal as the brand owner behind this barcode, with registration number 1297081-V and an address at Menara 1 Sentrum on Jalan Tun Sambanthan in Kuala Lumpur.[5] The barcode's GS1 company prefix, 9556108, is therefore recorded against that company as sourced rather than inferred from the brands Open Food Facts files under the same digits.[6]
