About this product

Tilda Pure Original Basmati is dry, uncooked basmati rice in a 1 kg bag. The front reads "Tilda Legendary Rice, Pure Original Basmati" and the panel lists pure basmati rice and nothing else, adding the line "Sun-kissed legendary rice, nothing else".[3] Tilda's own shop sells the same rice in 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs, labels it gluten free and vegan, and says the grain can only be grown and harvested at the foothills of the Himalayas.[4] The operator is printed on the bag beside the barcode as Tilda, PO Box 550, Rainham, RM13 9AE, and the same block names Manassen Foods Australia as the Australian distributor.[3]

More about this product

The photographs show two label generations. The bag photographed in 2014 prints two columns, per 100 g uncooked and per 180 g cooked, declares sodium and potassium rather than salt, carries four Guideline Daily Amount flashes and states that the pack holds at least 16 portions.[3] The bag photographed in 2025 prints a single column headed "Typical values dry/uncooked rice", declares salt as less than 0.01 g and drops the cooked column, and its energy falls from 1505 kJ to 1491 kJ per 100 g with protein down from 9.0 g to 7.8 g.[3] The maker's page repeats the current values and adds a per 60 g serving column that the pack does not carry.[4]

The brand was founded in 1970. It has milled and packed rice at Rainham, on the Thames Estuary east of London, since 1988, and was acquired by Hain Celestial in 2014 and by Ebro Foods in 2019.[5][6] Companies House lists Tilda Limited, incorporated in 1970, as a grain miller at Coldharbour Lane, Rainham, with Ebro Foods S.A. holding 75% or more of its shares since 27 August 2019.[7][8] Ebro Foods, based in Madrid, is described as the world's largest rice producer.[9] No photographed surface carries an origin statement: a Dublin retailer's data sheet gives the country of origin as the United Kingdom, which is where the rice is milled rather than grown, so the origin field is left empty.[2]

Listing observed

The pack prints an Australian distributor block naming Manassen Foods Australia Pty Ltd of Wetherill Park NSW. It was read from the 2014 label generation and no current Australian listing was found, so Australia is not counted in country_of_sale

A listing is evidence that this barcode is sold there, on that date; a price is what that listing showed, not a recommended price.

Coverage & research gaps (7)

Coverage measures the evidence recorded here. It does not rate the product.

  • Identity: 3 / 3 · Name, brand and classification recorded
  • Context: 3 / 3 · Evidence groups assigned to a researched label, edition or analysis
  • Label photographs: 2 / 3 · Researched contexts with an assigned photograph
  • Current bag, dry values only: nutrient evidence: 9 / 9 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • Earlier bag with an uncooked and a cooked column: nutrient evidence: 20 / 20 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • Tilda website product page: nutrient evidence: 18 / 18 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • identity · disputed: No photographed pack surface carries a country of origin statement. Fallon & Byrne's data sheet gives the country of origin as UK, while the maker says the grain can only be grown at the foothills of the Himalayas and is milled at Rainham, so the field is left empty
  • markets · stale: The Australian distributor block was read from the 2014 generation; no current Australian listing of this GTIN was found, so Australia is recorded as a market observation but not in country_of_sale
  • packaging · not_researched: Only the nutrition panel of the current bag is photographed; its front, ingredient panel and operator block are not, so the front claims and the distributor block are dated to the earlier generation
  • nutrition · disputed: Fallon & Byrne prints salt as less than 0.03 g where the pack prints less than 0.01 g and the maker prints 0.01 g; the retailer figure is not used as label evidence
  • identity · not_applicable: Open Food Facts holds two other Tilda 1 kg barcodes, 5011157993768 for the same name in the United Kingdom and 5011157995458 for an Extra Long Basmati in France, and four other sizes; none of them is this article
  • nutrition · unknown: Open Food Facts types choline and starch as 0 for this barcode, which no photographed panel declares
  • evidence · stale: Evidence was observed over a year ago; check for newer labels. Historical evidence remains valid.
