Xylitol

About

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, a colourless or white crystalline solid sometimes called birch sugar because it can be extracted from birch wood; it is used as a food additive and sugar substitute under the European Union code E967.^[1] It was first isolated from beech wood chips by Emil Fischer and Rudolf Stahel in 1890.^[1] It sweetens the 2019 label of Wrigley's Extra Peppermint Handy Box.^[2]
