Tuna

About

Tuna are saltwater fish of the tribe Thunnini, a subgroup of the mackerel family Scombridae, fifteen species across five genera ranging from the bullet tuna to the Atlantic bluefin; they are fished commercially throughout the warmer seas and several species are overfished.^[1] As a food ingredient tuna is an animal product, so neither vegan nor vegetarian, and fish and products thereof are point 4 of Annex II to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, the list of substances causing allergies or intolerances, so an ingredient list must name it and emphasise the name in its typeset.^[2] Labels print it as tuna, as a species name such as skipjack, yellowfin or albacore, or as the flavouring drawn from it, natural tuna flavouring.
