A sole is a flatfish of the suborder Pleuronectoidei, generally of the family Soleidae; outside Europe the name is also applied to other similar flatfish, including members of the flounder family, while the common or Dover sole Solea solea is the most esteemed European species.[1] As an ingredient it is a fish; labels such as Fancy Feast Cod, Sole & Shrimp Feast print it simply as "Sole".[2]
