Salmon

About

Salmon is the common name of several commercially important euryhaline ray-finned fish of the genera Salmo and Oncorhynchus in the family Salmonidae, native to tributaries of the North Atlantic and the North Pacific; most are anadromous, hatching in freshwater gravel beds, growing at sea and returning to fresh water to spawn, and trout, char, grayling and whitefish are close relatives in the same family.^[1] As a food ingredient salmon is an animal product, so neither vegan nor vegetarian, and fish and products thereof are point 4 of Annex II to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, the list of substances causing allergies or intolerances, so an ingredient list must name it and emphasise the name in its typeset.^[2] Labels print it as salmon, as a species or trade name such as Atlantic salmon, sockeye or coho, or as the flavouring drawn from it, natural salmon flavouring.
