Mastic is a resin obtained from the mastic tree, Pistacia lentiscus, traditionally produced on the Greek island of Chios, whence its name tears of Chios; it dries into brittle, translucent droplets that soften and turn white when chewed.[1] In the Eastern Mediterranean it is commonly used in desserts, and it flavours chewing gum such as First Sensations Damla Sakızlı, which declares 1 % damla sakızı.[1][2]
