Mannitol

About

Mannitol is a sugar alcohol used in sugarfree chewing gum as a bulk sweetener and a dusting agent. The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code lists it under code number 421; in the European Union the same additive is E421.^[1] Wrigley's Extra peppermint sugarfree gum sold in Australia and New Zealand declares it in its ingredient list and 7 g of mannitol per 100 g in its nutrition panel.^[2]
