About
Maize (Zea mays), also known as corn, is a tall grass that produces cereal grain; it was domesticated by indigenous peoples in southern Mexico about 9,000 years ago from wild teosinte.[1] Since the Columbian exchange it has become a staple food in many parts of the world, and its total production now surpasses that of wheat and rice.[1] It is the first ingredient of Kellogg's Corn Flakes, printed as Mais, majs, maissi and maïs on the multilingual European carton.[2]
