Magnesium proteinate is a metal proteinate, a mineral source made by combining a magnesium compound with a protein carrier such as hydrolysed soy protein so that the two bond into a chelate complex.[1] Metal proteinates of calcium, cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese and zinc are listed in the AAFCO manual under trace minerals and are recognised by the FDA for use in animal feed.[1] Whether it is vegan depends on the protein carrier used.[1]
