Glycerol

About

Glycerol is a humectant that keeps chewing gum and other foods soft. The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code lists it under code number 422 as "glycerin or glycerol"; in the European Union the same additive is E422.^[1] Wrigley's Extra peppermint sugarfree gum sold in Australia and New Zealand declares it by number only, as "humectant (422)", and its panel gives 10 g of glycerol per 100 g.^[2]
