About
Cayenne pepper is the fine, fiery powder ground from dried pods of the cayenne chilli. The Fuchs Gruppe's spice shop distinguishes it from chilli powder and chilli flakes by saying it consists solely of ground pods of the cayenne variety and rates it at 30,000 to 60,000 Scoville units, well above the 1,000 to 5,000 of chilli powder, with an intense fruity-hot aroma.[1] Its heat comes from capsaicin.[1] German labels declare it simply as "Cayenne Pfeffer", which is also the legal denomination of a pack containing nothing else.[2]
