Butylated hydroxytoluene

About

Butylated hydroxytoluene is a synthetic antioxidant used to keep fats and gum bases from going rancid. The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code lists it under code number 321; in the European Union the same additive is E321.^[1] Wrigley's Extra peppermint sugarfree gum sold in Australia and New Zealand declares it by number only, as "antioxidant (321)".^[2]
