Butylated hydroxyanisole

About

Butylated hydroxyanisole is a synthetic antioxidant used, often beside butylated hydroxytoluene, to protect fats and gum bases from oxidation. The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code lists it under code number 320; in the European Union the same additive is E320.^[1] The ingredient list recorded for Wrigley's Extra peppermint sugarfree gum on the old Barcodepedia in 2007 declared "antioxidants (321 320)", where the pack photographed in 2015 declares 321 alone.^[2]
