Campbell's Condensed Soup is the product line The Campbell's Company sells as concentrated soup in a small steel can, to be reconstituted by the cook with one can of water or milk; the word CONDENSED is printed across the top of every can and the maker files the range under that name.[1] The line dates from the condensing method developed by the company chemist John T. Dorrance in 1897, which halved the weight of the heaviest ingredient and made a single small can cheap enough to ship nationally.[2]
