KitKat is the chocolate-covered wafer bar created by Rowntree's of York; Nestlé has made it worldwide since buying Rowntree's in 1988, except in the United States, where Hershey holds a licence.[^wikikitkat] This barcode is the single four-finger milk chocolate bar of 41.5 g made in South Africa by Nestlé (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd of Bryanston.[^pack2025back] The current wrapper, in English and Portuguese, prints consumer lines for South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya and Mauritius, divides the bar into two servings of two fingers (20 g, 427 kJ each), and marks its cocoa as Rainforest Alliance certified under the claim "100% sustainably sourced cocoa".[^pack2025back][^pack2025front] Pick n Pay and Woolworths sell it under this barcode.[^pnp][^woolworths]
An earlier wrapper, photographed in 2018 with a best-before date of April 2019, carried English and French ingredient lists with cane sugar, illipe fat, yeast, flavouring and calcium sulfate that the current list no longer names, the UTZ Certified cocoa mark and a front flash announcing chocolate with 28 % more milk and 5 % more cocoa.[^pack2018ingr][^pack2018front][^pack2018nutri]
