Würzburger Hofbräu Pilsner is a Franconian pilsner in a 0.5 l returnable glass bottle, with 4.9 % alcohol by volume and 11.5 % original gravity.[^label] The label lists water, barley malt and hops and names Würzburger Hofbräu GmbH of Würzburg as the operator.[^label] The brewery says the beer is brewed to the Bavarian Purity Law with its own well water, local barley malt and Hallertau aroma hops, at 42 kcal per 100 ml.[^maker] This label is printed in German and Italian and carries Italian recycling instructions.[^label] A Fddb user recorded the same barcode for the beer in 2012.[^fddb]
The brewery was founded in 1643 by Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn. In January 2005 Kulmbacher Brauerei AG bought the von Finck family's 90.7 % stake, and in 2008 the company became a GmbH.[^wiki]
