KitKat is the chocolate-covered wafer bar Rowntree's of York launched in 1935; Nestlé has owned it since buying Rowntree's in 1988.[^wikikitkat] KitKat Mini is the original KitKat recipe in a smaller format.[^auchan] This barcode is the French bag of about 21 individually wrapped KitKat Mini bars of 16.7 g, 350 g in all, with French sorting marks and the Nestlé France consumer service at Issy-les-Moulineaux on the back.[^packback2023] Auchan's data sheet gives Germany as the country of manufacture and describes a crisp wafer covered with milk chocolate (68.4 %), whose cocoa is Rainforest Alliance certified under mass balance.[^auchan] Each bar is one portion of 85 kcal.[^auchan]
The recipe has changed several times. The bag photographed in 2015 used cocoa butter, palm oil, bakery butter, sunflower lecithin and vanilla flavouring, printed 520 kcal per 100 g and counted a minimum of 19 portions.[^pack2015] By 2021 the chocolate contained palm and shea fats, and the list had lost the butter, whey and flavourings.[^packingr2021] The artwork uploaded in 2022 and 2023 lists whey powder again, after the vegetable fats,[^packback2023] and the current list adds glucose syrup and moves cocoa mass up to fourth place, with 511 kcal per 100 g.[^auchan][^off]
