KitKat is the chocolate-covered wafer bar Rowntree's of York launched in 1935; Nestlé has owned it since buying Rowntree's in 1988 and makes it worldwide except in the United States.[^wikikitkat] This barcode is the multipack of four KitKat Chunky bars of 40 g each, 160 g in all, a single thick wafer finger covered in milk chocolate (68.5 %).[^packrender] The back names Nestlé Bulgaria AD of Sofia as the maker and prints consumer services for France, Switzerland and Portugal; Auchan.fr lists the pack with this EAN and gives Bulgaria as the country of manufacture.[^packrender][^auchan] Each bar is one portion of 207 kcal on the current pack, and its cocoa is Rainforest Alliance certified under mass balance.[^packnutri][^packfront]
The recipe has changed twice on photographed packs. A French pack from 2015 listed cocoa butter second, used palm oil, bakery butter and natural vanilla flavouring and a sunflower lecithin.[^pack2015] The 2022 artwork used palm and shea fats and carried the Nestlé Cocoa Plan logo.[^packrender] The 2025 pack adds glucose syrup and natural flavouring and gives 6.5 g protein per 100 g against 7.8 g in 2022.[^packingr][^packnutri]
