KitKat Chunky is the single thick-finger version of KitKat, the wafer bar Rowntree's launched in 1935 and Nestlé has owned outside the United States since 1988.[^wikikitkat] This barcode is the 40 g milk chocolate bar with a French and Portuguese wrapper sold in France, Portugal and Switzerland: it names Nestlé Bulgaria AD of Sofia as the maker and carries the French sorting mark and consumer services for all three countries.[^pack2022] The current label describes a crisp wafer covered with milk chocolate (68.5 %), counts the bar as one portion of 206 kcal and marks its cocoa as Rainforest Alliance certified under mass balance; Nestlé's French KitKat site prints the same list and table.[^pack2022][^kitkatfr] Continente sells it in Portugal and a French wholesaler lists Bulgaria as its origin.[^continente][^miamland]
Earlier wrappers differ. The 2021 artwork listed vegetable oils after the cocoa, had no whey powder and printed 518 kcal per 100 g.[^pack2021] A French wrapper photographed in 2014 carried a "Break Ultime" promotion, used whole milk powder, bakery butter, sunflower lecithin and vanilla flavouring, and printed 533 kcal per 100 g and 213 kcal per bar.[^pack2014][^pack2014n][^pack2014f] The Open Food Facts typed record carries a further list with glucose syrup and natural flavouring.[^off]
