Nothing Is Sound is the fifth studio album by the American alternative rock band Switchfoot, released on 13 September 2005 by Columbia Records; it debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA the following month.[^wiki-album] This barcode is the US Target-exclusive DualDisc edition, catalogue number CN 96427: a single hybrid disc whose CD side carries thirteen tracks and whose DVD side holds all twelve songs in 5.1 surround sound and stereo, plus the documentary "The Making of Nothing Is Sound".[^discogs-target] Target's DualDisc added a thirteenth CD track, the acoustic "Good Night Punk", and, unlike the standard CD, this DualDisc carried no copy-protection software.[^jfh][^wiki-album]
The album was at the centre of the 2005 Sony BMG copy-protection controversy: standard pressings shipped with Extended Copy Protection (XCP) or Cactus Data Shield, which installed rootkit-style software on Windows computers, while the DualDisc editions were released simultaneously without it.[^wiki-album] It appears on Columbia, a Sony Music Entertainment imprint, and both MusicBrainz and Discogs record this barcode as the 2005 US Target-exclusive DualDisc.[^mb][^discogs-target] The pressing is long out of print and now circulates on the collector market.[^discogs-target]
