Broadway: The American Musical is a five-CD compilation box set released in the United States on 19 October 2004,[^musicbrainz] issued as the companion to the six-hour PBS documentary series of the same name, hosted by Julie Andrews and produced and directed by Michael Kantor, which premiered that week.[^playbill] Discogs credits the Columbia Broadway Masterworks and Legacy labels, catalogue number C5K 92899, with 106 tracks and a booklet; Kantor is among its compilation producers.[^discogs] The songs are drawn almost entirely from original cast recordings,[^mwb] running from Joel Grey's "Give My Regards to Broadway" to "Defying Gravity" by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.[^discogs] Playbill announced the set as a release of Columbia Broadway Masterworks and Decca Broadway.[^playbill]
