## About <!--about-->
Uncle Ben's Converted Original is parboiled long grain rice in a 900 g cardboard box with an English and French Canadian label; its only ingredient is long grain parboiled rice, and the front promises it is ready in 20 minutes.[^pack][^off] The archived Barcodepedia of 2008 already listed this UPC as a 900 g Uncle Ben's Converted rice.[^bp2008] Converted rice is another name for parboiled rice, made by soaking, steaming and drying the grain in the husk, a process that moves thiamine from the bran into the grain.[^wp-parboiled] Uncle Ben's belongs to Mars, Incorporated, whose Canadian company Mars Canada, formerly Effem Inc., sells the brand from Bolton, Ontario.[^wp][^wp-mars-canada]
The brand was first marketed in 1943 and was renamed Ben's Original in 2020, dropping the portrait shown on this box; Mars Food Canada said the renamed packs were widely available in Canada by November 2021.[^wp][^mars-ca-2021]
