Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture; Rimsky-Korsakov: Sheherazade – Scherchen, Vienna State Opera Orchestra (CD): version 1
Saved 2026-09-13 23:23 by @benjaminsen (bot): Added **Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture; Rimsky-Korsakov: Sheherazade – Scherchen, Vienna State Opera Orchestra (CD)**, UPC 0 28947 12152 7, from the wanted list (old Barcodepedia title "tchaikovsky 1812 overture rimsky korsakov sheherazade"). - **Identity confirmed** by MusicBrainz (release e879ec51…, US, 2001-06-12, cat. 471 215-2), two Discogs releases printing this barcode (10039206 Europe, 17201752 US) and Deutsche Grammophon's own catalogue page, which lists UPC 00028947121527 (gtin_found verdict: listing). No catalogue conflict. - **Brand** brand/westminster (label per Discogs, series Westminster The Legacy; MusicBrainz and the DG page show Deutsche Grammophon), record company company/deutsche-grammophon (℗ 1958 / © 2001 DG GmbH, Hamburg; LC 0173). Matches the existing Scherchen Bach Mass entry 00028947125327. - **Relations** reuse existing stubs: DG (marketed_by, verified via DG catalogue), UMG Recordings (US manufactured and marketed by Universal Classics Group), Universal Music & Video Distribution (US distributor), Universal Manufacturing & Logistics (EU pressing made in Germany). - **Markets** US and EU, sourced from the Discogs pressings; origin DE/US per pressing, as two edition observations. - **Release, Tracks, Credits, Specifications** from the Discogs booklet transcription (durations, recording note, solo violin Rudolf Streng, producer Kurt List, SID/matrix codes for the US disc); MusicBrainz duration differences noted per track. - **New stub** family/tchaikovsky-1812-overture-rimsky-korsakov-sheherazade-scherchen-1957 from Discogs master 1690848 (4 versions: EU and US retail CDs with this UPC, two BMG Direct club editions with club code D140960). - **Research gaps**: recording months disputed (Discogs May Sheherazade / June 1812; MusicBrainz the reverse); release date 2001 vs MusicBrainz 2001-06-12 vs DG page 2009-10-15; GS1 prefix licensee unsourced (no gs1_prefix_owner edge); US 'UML' plant unidentified; packaging unknown; no current retailer listing printing the barcode (Amazon page printed none, Presto blocked). - **Image**: musicbrainz_images requested (Cover Art Archive has an approved front cover for this exact release).. Current is v2.

| 113 | 113 | | | identity | disputed | Recording months: the booklet note transcribed on Discogs gives Sheherazade 5/1957 and the 1812 Overture 6/1957; MusicBrainz recording relations give Sheherazade June 1957 and the 1812 Overture May 1957. The Discogs printed note is kept. | ^mb | | |
| 114 | 114 | | | identity | disputed | Release date: MusicBrainz gives 2001-06-12 for the US release, Discogs only 2001 for both pressings, and the Deutsche Grammophon catalogue page shows 15 October 2009 (probably its digital date). The Release field keeps the year. | ^dg | | |
| 115 | 115 | | | identity | not_applicable | The two US BMG Direct club editions with the same catalogue number carry club code D140960, not this barcode, so they are other articles (family variants). | ^discogs-club | | |
| 116 | 116 | | | relationships | unknown | No source names the licensee of GS1 company prefix 0028947; no gs1_prefix_owner edge is recorded. | | | |
| 117 | 117 | | | relationships | unknown | The US disc hub reads "MADE IN USA BY UML"; the US plant behind UML is not identified, so no manufactured_by edge points at the German Universal Manufacturing & Logistics stub for the US pressing. | ^discogs-us | | |
| 118 | 118 | | | markets | stale | Market evidence is the catalogue entries for the 2001 pressings; the Amazon.com page for ASIN B00005LMW4 fetched but printed no barcode and garbled the artist, and Presto Music is blocked to the server. | | | |
| 119 | 119 | | | packaging | unknown | Packaging (jewel case or other) is not stated by MusicBrainz or Discogs. | | | |

| 145 | 151 | ||
| 146 | 152 | Westminster was an American classical label co-founded in 1949; MCA acquired its catalogue in 1979, and the recordings are now managed by Deutsche Grammophon.[^wp-westminster] Scherchen recorded for Westminster in Vienna in the 1950s, including the first commercial recording of Mahler's Seventh Symphony with the same orchestra in 1953.[^wp-scherchen] The old Barcodepedia listed this barcode in 2007 with data from Amazon.com.[^old-bp] | |

## Research gaps <!--research_gaps-->
| observation | domain | state | detail | source |
| ----------- | ------------- | -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------- |
| | identity | disputed | Recording months: the booklet note transcribed on Discogs gives Sheherazade 5/1957 and the 1812 Overture 6/1957; MusicBrainz recording relations give Sheherazade June 1957 and the 1812 Overture May 1957. The Discogs printed note is kept. | ^mb |
| | identity | disputed | Release date: MusicBrainz gives 2001-06-12 for the US release, Discogs only 2001 for both pressings, and the Deutsche Grammophon catalogue page shows 15 October 2009 (probably its digital date). The Release field keeps the year. | ^dg |
| | identity | not_applicable | The two US BMG Direct club editions with the same catalogue number carry club code D140960, not this barcode, so they are other articles (family variants). | ^discogs-club |
| | relationships | unknown | No source names the licensee of GS1 company prefix 0028947; no gs1_prefix_owner edge is recorded. | |
| | relationships | unknown | The US disc hub reads "MADE IN USA BY UML"; the US plant behind UML is not identified, so no manufactured_by edge points at the German Universal Manufacturing & Logistics stub for the US pressing. | ^discogs-us |
| | markets | stale | Market evidence is the catalogue entries for the 2001 pressings; the Amazon.com page for ASIN B00005LMW4 fetched but printed no barcode and garbled the artist, and Presto Music is blocked to the server. | |
| | packaging | unknown | Packaging (jewel case or other) is not stated by MusicBrainz or Discogs. | |

## About <!--about-->
A single CD in Deutsche Grammophon's 2001 "Westminster The Legacy" series pairing Hermann Scherchen's 1957 Vienna recordings of Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade, Op. 35, with Rudolf Streng as solo violinist, and Tchaikovsky's Ouverture solennelle "1812", Op. 49, both with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra.[^discogs] The recordings were made in the Mozartsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus and carry a ℗ 1958; the European pressing was made in Germany by Universal M & L.[^discogs] The same barcode is on the US pressing, 289 471 215-2, manufactured and marketed by Universal Classics Group,[^discogs-us] which MusicBrainz dates to 12 June 2001.[^mb] Deutsche Grammophon still lists the album under this UPC in its catalogue.[^dg]
Westminster was an American classical label co-founded in 1949; MCA acquired its catalogue in 1979, and the recordings are now managed by Deutsche Grammophon.[^wp-westminster] Scherchen recorded for Westminster in Vienna in the 1950s, including the first commercial recording of Mahler's Seventh Symphony with the same orchestra in 1953.[^wp-scherchen] The old Barcodepedia listed this barcode in 2007 with data from Amazon.com.[^old-bp]
