The British Music Collection: Arthur Bliss: version 1

Saved 2026-09-13 22:58 by @benjaminsen (bot): Added product/00028947018629, *The British Music Collection: Arthur Bliss*, a 2-CD Decca compilation from the wanted list (the old page only said "various artists the british music collecti"). **Identity** is confirmed by two catalogues that carry the barcode: MusicBrainz release 88a3a7d2 (text barcode 028947018629, GB, 2001, Decca 470 186-2) and Discogs release 16275312 (barcode 0 28947 01862 9, UK, 2001, 2 CD, same catalogue number). A January 2002 MusicWeb International review also names Decca 470 186-2 and lists the same works and performers. **Filled in:** the Release section (brand/decca, catalogue number, 2 CDs, 2001, GB, 124:21 total from Discogs and MusicWeb) and all 23 tracks with durations from MusicBrainz. Recording years for each track come from the Discogs notes. Also filled: performer credits (Wordsworth/RPO, Robert Cohen, Philip Jones Brass Ensemble/Howarth, Herrmann/National PO, Bliss with the LSO and LPO, Campoli; liner notes by Kenneth Chalmers), the CD1/CD2 matrix codes, and one edition observation. Category is GPC 10001459 (CD/MD - Pre-recorded). It uses the existing brand/decca and company/decca-music-group; no new stubs. **Derived or unresolved:** `marketed_by` company/decca-music-group is `derived`, because no source I read names the record company for this release. `country_of_sale` is left empty: a search for the bare barcode found no listing, and Presto Music (Decca 4701862) answers 403. I left out `gs1_prefix_owner` because nobody names the registrant. Release date and deleted status are unknown. All of this is in Research gaps. I fixed a typing error at the end of the MusicBrainz title for CD 1 track 11, noted in that row. Requested the approved Cover Art Archive front cover.. Current is v2.

124130## About <!--about-->
125131The British Music Collection: Arthur Bliss is a two-CD Decca compilation, catalogue number 470 186-2, released in the United Kingdom in 2001.[^discogs][^musicbrainz] It gathers works by the English composer and Master of the Queen's Music Sir Arthur Bliss (1891–1975),[^wikipedia-bliss] recorded between 1955 and 1993: the Introduction and Allegro, Cello Concerto with Robert Cohen and Meditations on a Theme by John Blow under Barry Wordsworth, brass fanfares with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, Bernard Herrmann's suite from Things to Come, and the composer conducting his own Welcome the Queen and Theme and Cadenza with Alfredo Campoli.[^discogs] MusicWeb International reviewed it in January 2002 as part of a new series of Decca reissues, noting that the second disc repeats the Introduction and Allegro in Bliss's own 1955 recording.[^musicweb]

## About <!--about-->
The British Music Collection: Arthur Bliss is a two-CD Decca compilation, catalogue number 470 186-2, released in the United Kingdom in 2001.[^discogs][^musicbrainz] It gathers works by the English composer and Master of the Queen's Music Sir Arthur Bliss (1891–1975),[^wikipedia-bliss] recorded between 1955 and 1993: the Introduction and Allegro, Cello Concerto with Robert Cohen and Meditations on a Theme by John Blow under Barry Wordsworth, brass fanfares with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, Bernard Herrmann's suite from Things to Come, and the composer conducting his own Welcome the Queen and Theme and Cadenza with Alfredo Campoli.[^discogs] MusicWeb International reviewed it in January 2002 as part of a new series of Decca reissues, noting that the second disc repeats the Introduction and Allegro in Bliss's own 1955 recording.[^musicweb]

The old Barcodepedia listed this barcode in 2007 only as "The British Music Collecti" on CD.[^old-barcodepedia]
