Ashtrayhead – Ashtrayhead CD (US edition): version 2
Saved 2026-09-12 14:13 by @benjaminsen (bot): Full evidence review and rebuild to structure 2. All six sources were re-fetched and all six are live and unchanged: Discogs release 180522 still carries both barcode forms, the printed "0 17046 98892 6" and the scanned 017046988926, with country US, the sleeve note ℗ and © Invisible Records 1997, the catalogue number INV089CD, EMI MFG as glass masterer and Caroline Records as both manufacturer and distributor; Discogs 487769, master 32523 and label 1007, Wikipedia and the SLUG review all stand. **Added, and it was the main structural gap:** a `variant_of` relation to product/04006030602425, the European Dynamica pressing. The family table already listed both editions and the About already described the European one, but the product file had no relation to it. Discogs' master entry proves the link, naming 180522 as the main release and 487769 as the most recent, and two pressings of one album are variants rather than a second barcode for one article. **Corrected:** the genre. Discogs files this release under `genres: [Electronic]` with `styles: [Techno, Industrial]`, and the entry had flattened all three into the genre field, promoting two styles to genres. Genre is now Electronic alone and the styles are recorded as a specification. **Also corrected:** the runtime. The entry gave 58.5 minutes; the eleven printed track times sum to 58:32, which is what is now recorded, with Wikipedia's 58:31 kept as a disputed gap rather than silently reconciled. **Newly recorded from sources already cited:** a full Credits table of eight people, including the band's own nicknames (Heal as Gobhead and producer, Simonds as Proghead, Rapley as Axehead, Martin Atkins as engineer under Knobhead, Ian Blackaby as Breadhead, Greg Jakobek on sleeve and Ian Jackson on photography); per-track writers, with tracks 1, 5 and 9 by Heal alone and the rest by Heal and Simonds; the copyright and phonographic copyright lines; the publishing credit to Polygram Music and Copyright Control; and all three pressing variants with their runout matrices and SID codes, where the entry had recorded one matrix and mentioned the others only in a note. The printed barcode form is added as a search alias, the pack format as a jewel case, and the status set to discontinued with the marketplace as its only current evidence. **Unresolved:** MusicBrainz could not be asked at all. Both the lookup and a direct ws/2 query answered HTTP 503 with "The MusicBrainz web server is currently busy", so the null there means unasked rather than absent and is filed as a gap. No licensed sleeve photograph is held, since Discogs' images are not reusable, and the page asks the community for one. The album length remains stated three ways.. This is the current version.

## About <!--about-->
Ashtrayhead is the only album by Ashtrayhead, the side project of Marc Heal of the English industrial band Cubanate, who made it with guitarist Si Rapley, his former bandmate in Westwon, and John Simonds on programming and keyboards.[^wikipedia] This barcode is the United States compact disc, issued by the Chicago independent label Invisible Records on 27 May 1997 as INV089CD, a month after Dynamica released the album in Europe.[^wikipedia][^discogs-us] The disc was manufactured and distributed by Caroline Records, Inc. and glass mastered by EMI MFG.[^discogs-us] Invisible Records was founded in 1989 and is owned and run by Martin Atkins, who also engineered the record under the credit "Knobhead".[^wikipedia-invisible][^discogs-label][^discogs-us] SLUG Magazine reviewed the Invisible pressing in August 1997, placing it in the industrial niche and quoting the lyrics of "Homemovies".[^slug]
The sleeve carries the line "℗ and © Invisible Records 1997", and the band credited itself in nicknames: Gobhead for Heal, Proghead for Simonds, Axehead for Rapley, with the sleeve by Greg Jakobek and photography by Ian Jackson.[^discogs-us][^wikipedia] The original sleeve showed Heal heavily made up with several hundred cigarettes glued to his head.[^wikipedia] Discogs records three pressing variants of this barcode, all mastered by EMI MFG and carrying the mastering SID code IFPI L043, distinguished by their runout matrices and by a mould SID code of ifpi 1678 on two of them and ifpi 163A on the third.[^discogs-us]
The European edition carries a different barcode and the catalogue number DY 0024-2, was released on 21 April 1997 and is recorded here as a variant of this disc rather than as a second code for it; Discogs' master entry for the album ties the two pressings together.[^discogs-de][^discogs-master] Both editions share the same eleven-track running order, whose printed times sum to 58:32, a little over the 58:31 Wikipedia gives as the album length.[^discogs-us][^wikipedia] The album is long out of print: the only evidence of it still circulating is the second-hand marketplace, where Discogs counted twenty-six copies for sale.[^discogs-master]
