KitKat is the chocolate-covered wafer bar Rowntree's of York launched in 1935, owned by Nestlé since it bought Rowntree's in 1988 and exported to Australia and New Zealand from the 1940s.[^wikikitkat] This EAN-8 is the 45 g four-finger bar Nestlé makes in Australia: its wrappers say "Made in Australia" and give Nestlé Australia in Rhodes, New South Wales, and Nestlé New Zealand as contacts.[^pack17back][^pack25back] The bar is 67 % milk chocolate and 33 % wafer fingers on the current label, against 70 and 30 in 2017, and its cocoa moved from the Nestlé Cocoa Plan badge to Rainforest Alliance certification.[^pack17front][^coles23] In January 2025 Nestlé said a $30 million upgrade of its Campbellfield KitKat factory came with a new wafer mould, taking the bar from 45 g to 42 g at the same price.[^yahoo]
Coles sold the 45 g bar as product 136512 at AUD 2.20 in December 2023 and lists the 42 g bar under a new EAN-13, 9300605155459, with the same ingredient statement.[^coles23][^coles42] A 45 g wrapper was still photographed in October 2025, and the barcode remains listed by a confectionery shop and in a 48-bar case on Amazon.com.au.[^pack25front][^lolz][^amazonau]
