The half-litre PET contour bottle of Diet Coke sold in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and one of the few Coca-Cola articles to carry an eight-digit barcode: an EAN-8 has no company prefix, because GS1 Belgium and Luxembourg issues each number in the 540-549 range singly rather than in a block.[^gs1-prefix] The back label names two bottlers, Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland Ltd. of 12 Lissue Road, Lisburn and Coca-Cola HBC Ireland Ltd. of Ballycoolin, Dublin 11, with a freephone number for each jurisdiction, and credits the recipe to The Coca-Cola Company.[^pack-2014] Coca-Cola HBC describes itself as the group's strategic bottling partner for the island and fills at Knockmore Hill in Lisburn.[^cchbc-ie] Dublin and British sellers still list the bottle by this barcode.[^asiamarket][^deebee]
Diet Coke was unveiled on 8 July 1982 and keeps that name in the United States, Great Britain and Ireland while much of the rest of Europe sells it as Coca-Cola Light.[^wiki-diet] The old Barcodepedia catalogued this barcode as "Diet Coke 500ml bottle" in 2009, with a producer line generated from the prefix rather than from any label.[^old-page] Three ingredient wordings are on record for the number: the 2014 and 2017 labels declare "Natural Flavourings Including Caffeine, Phosphoric Acid, Citric Acid" under a "with Vegetable Extracts" denomination,[^pack-2014][^pack-2017] a 2023 British label reads "with Plant Extracts" and splits out a caffeine flavouring,[^pack-2023] and the Irish sheet SuperValu publishes keeps caffeine inside the flavourings while bracketing the acids.[^supervalu] Every version declares no sugar and no calories, and warns that it contains a source of phenylalanine.[^cc-gb]
