The photograph was read at full size, 6000 by 8000 pixels, and confirms what the entry said: a French standardised pack showing the warning face only, with the brand face, the variant name and the barcode itself all absent. That reading now also yields four printed claims that were not recorded before, the combined health warning Fumer peut tuer l'enfant que vous attendez, the statutory Tabac info service panel with the 3989 quitline, the Triman éléments d'emballage bac de tri sorting mark and the EU filtre contenant du plastique marking, and the French market row now cites the photograph itself rather than the Open Food Facts record. The French homologated price list of 1 January 2026 was re-read in full, which sharpened the entry's caveat into a checked fact and corrected its count: the list carries thirteen Camel cigarette lines in packs of twenty under JTI, sans filtre, Black, Blue, Essential, Essential 100's, Essential Blue, Filters in rigid and soft packs, Filters 100's, Shift, Shift Breeze, Fresh and Fresh 100's, all at 13,00 EUR, together with XL and XXL packs of twenty-five and thirty, and the string Natural Flavour does not appear anywhere in the document. The entry had said eleven lines. The prefix reading was re-checked against GS1's own published table and kept at 421, GS1 Germany, with a new gap recording that the lookup reports this barcode's prefix as 000, United States and Canada, because it reads the zero-padded fourteen-digit form; GS1 reserves 0000001 to 0000099 unused precisely to avoid that collision, so the lookup's gs1 block should not be used for eight-digit codes. The Specifications table was rewritten with the full twelve-column header the parser requires. Unresolved and recorded in research_gaps: the variant name, which rests on a 2009 contributor capture and an EAN dictionary and was never read from a pack; whether the barcode was renamed into one of the current Camel lines or retired, which needs a source printing the barcode beside a name; the lookup's GTIN-8 prefix reading; the absence of any retailer listing or price entry printing this barcode; and company/japan-tobacco-international still stating no gs1_prefixes. The first row I drew, 0008002575540 ("broek"), I skipped: it identifies nothing. Its Open Food Facts record carries photographs of three unrelated products (a Captain Morgan bottle, a roestbar espresso bag, a Myprotein whey pouch) and the two packs whose own barcodes are legible print 5000299223017 and 4260232340022 instead; the only place the wanted number appears is a foreign white sticker lying on the coffee bag, reading ten digits with no system or check digit. MusicBrainz stores the same ten digits ("8002575540") for an Australian CD, Brazilian Cosmos for a water-filter cartridge, scalemates for an Airfix kit. Ten digits is not a GTIN length, so every database left-pads it to 13 and they all collide. Skip reason posted in full. **Identity of 42136996.** Two readable records name it: the 2009 Barcodepedia capture ("Camel natural flavor 20", produced in Germany, container "Package 20 pcs") and barcode-list.com ("CAMEL NATURAL FLAVOUR BROWN", user-contributed, British spelling plus a shade word the old page lacks, so not an echo of it). A third site indexes it as "Camel Essential 20" but its page would not load from the server (403) or from my own fetch (526), so it is not cited in the file - only flagged in About as the open question. The page is named "Camel Natural Flavour 20"; both recorded titles are search aliases. **What the 2024 photograph proves.** The single Open Food Facts image (6000x8000, uploaded 2024-03-09, one contributor, no typed fields at all) is the warning face of a French standardised pack: the combined health warning "Fumer peut tuer l'enfant que vous attendez", the statutory Tabac info service 39 89 panel, the Triman Info-tri "BAC DE TRI" mark and the French "FILTRE CONTENANT DU PLASTIQUE" marking. The pack is photographed flat from above and the brand face is not in frame - I cropped the top edge at full resolution to check - so the picture fixes the market and the product type but not the variant, and About says exactly that. **The loose end, stated in About rather than guessed.** The French homologated price list of 1 January 2026 (Journal officiel, via douane.gouv.fr) carries eleven Camel cigarette lines at EUR 13.00 for 20, Camel Essential among them, and no "Natural Flavour" at all. Whether this barcode was renamed into one of those lines or retired needs a source that prints the barcode beside the name; none was found, so `status` is left empty rather than asserted either way. **Sourcing notes.** Brand ownership is split by territory and scoped that way: `owned_by` Japan Tobacco International with market `global, -US` from 1999, per Wikipedia's Camel article. The company stubs are registry-grade: GLEIF gives JT INTERNATIONAL SA (LEI 5493005KSGBD51CD7K33, CHE-105.274.060, Geneva, entity creation 1999-10-27) and names Japan Tobacco Inc. of Tokyo (LEI 353800Z0ENYBQO0XRJ31) its ultimate parent, which is the `owned_by` edge between the two. `gs1_prefix_owner` is `derived`: GS1's own prefix table puts 421 in the 400-440 block of GS1 Germany, nothing public names the licensee, and the note says the group's German subsidiary is the likelier registrant - app.implisense.com, the brief's German-register tip, is now behind a login. No ingredients or nutrition: a cigarette pack is not food and the index bar does not ask for them. The 2009 page's one-word "Tobacco" was not promoted to an ingredient row. Validate returned ok with no index gaps on all four files. **Two lookup bugs worth fixing, sent to feedback in full:** for this 8-digit code the lookup reports `symbology: "GTIN-13"` and `gs1: {prefix: "000", label: "United States and Canada"}`. The real prefix of EAN-8 42136996 is 421, GS1 Germany - the lookup pads to 13 first and then reads the prefix off the padding, which points rule 5 at the wrong country.
