KitKat is the chocolate-covered wafer bar Rowntree's of York launched in 1935; Nestlé has owned it since buying Rowntree's in 1988 and makes it worldwide except in the United States, where Hershey holds a licence.[^wikikitkat] This EAN-8 is the single four-finger milk chocolate bar of 41.5 g sold in France: the wrapper is in French, carries the Triman and Info-tri sorting marks and the Nestlé France consumer service at Issy-les-Moulineaux, and names Nestlé Deutschland AG of Frankfurt am Main as the maker.[^packrender] The current label describes a crisp wafer covered with milk chocolate (68.2 %), gives the whole bar as one portion of 213 kcal, and marks its cocoa as Rainforest Alliance certified under mass balance.[^packingr][^packnutri][^packfront] A Réunion retailer's data sheet gives Germany as the country of origin.[^zeclerc]
Earlier French wrappers differ. One photographed in 2018 listed skimmed milk powder before wheat flour, used palm oil, bakery butter and vanilla flavouring, gave the chocolate as 67.2 % and printed a claim of 25 % more milk and 6 % more cocoa in the chocolate.[^pack2018] Another, photographed in 2018 and 2021, split the bar into two portions of two fingers (20.7 g) and printed 521 kcal per 100 g.[^pack2p] The Open Food Facts typed record carries a further list with glucose syrup and 510 kcal per 100 g.[^off]
