## About <!--about-->
Sodium monofluorophosphate, Na2PO3F and usually abbreviated SMFP, is an odourless, colourless, water-soluble inorganic salt best known as the active fluoride source in toothpaste.[^wikipedia] In the mouth it hydrolyses to release fluoride ion, which protects tooth enamel from the acids produced by plaque bacteria and so from dental caries; European pastes for adults commonly declare it at 1450 ppm fluoride.[^wikipedia] It has also been used in osteoporosis medication and, in the 1990s, as a corrosion inhibitor against lead dissolving into drinking water.[^wikipedia]
