## About <!--about-->
Panax ginseng extract is an extract of the root of *Panax ginseng*, the Asian ginseng. PepsiCo used it in the zero-calorie cola sold in the United States as Diet Pepsi Max and later as Pepsi Zero Sugar, where it appeared last in the ingredient list alongside a caffeine level roughly twice that of Diet Pepsi.[^offphoto] The company removed it in January 2023, when it reformulated Pepsi Zero Sugar in the United States to taste closer to sugared Pepsi; the ginseng recipe stayed on sale in Canada.[^fooddive]
