## About <!--about-->
Curcumin is the bright yellow polyphenol pigment of turmeric, Curcuma longa, and the principal of the curcuminoids that give the rhizome its colour; it is sold as a food colouring, a flavouring and a cosmetics ingredient.[^curcumin] It was named in 1815, when Vogel and Pelletier first isolated a yellow colouring matter from turmeric rhizomes, and synthesised in 1913.[^curcumin] As a food additive it carries the number E100, and it colours dairy spreads such as Utterly Butterly alongside annatto.[^maker]
