Mountain Dew Code Red is the cherry-flavoured line within Mountain Dew, released to United States stores in May 2001 after PepsiCo had considered calling it Wild Cherry Mountain Dew; urban and ethnic focus groups preferred Code Red.[^wikicr] It was the brand's first large-scale move beyond its flagship citrus flavour and raised overall Mountain Dew sales by six per cent in its first year of production.[^wikicr] A Diet Mountain Dew Code Red followed in 2002 and was replaced by a Zero Sugar version in 2022, and an energy drink version of Code Red appeared the same year.[^wikicr] PepsiCo's United States product facts site lists the line in 12, 16.9, 20 and 33.8 fl oz bottles alongside a 67 fl oz size and a fountain formula.[^ppf]
