The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, formerly known as HongkongBank, is the Hong Kong–based bank that heads the HSBC group's business in Asia and the Pacific, the largest bank in Hong Kong and one of three banks licensed to issue Hong Kong dollar banknotes.[^wiki-hkbc] HSBC's structure chart of 28 January 2026 shows it wholly owned by HSBC Asia Holdings Ltd, the group's intermediate holding company in Asia, which HSBC Holdings plc owns directly; it in turn owns most of HSBC's Asian operating companies, among them Hang Seng Bank and HSBC Bank (Singapore).[^hsbc-structure] HSBC filings refer to it as HSBC Asia Pacific.[^hsbc-6k-2025]
The bank opened on 3 March 1865 and was incorporated in Hong Kong in 1866; it was the parent of the group until 1991, when HSBC Holdings plc took that place.[^wiki-hkbc] It wholly owns HSBC International Trustee (Holdings) Pte.
