Sony Music Holdings Inc. is the New York company through which Sony took over the CBS Records business. Discogs gives it New York company number 1218162, incorporated on 17 November 1987 as CBS Records Inc., renamed Sony Music Entertainment Inc. on 4 January 1991 and Sony Music Holdings Inc. on 16 January 2009, and files it under the parent label Sony Corporation.[^discogs-smei] Sony acquired CBS Records for US$2 billion on 17 November 1987, the sale being completed on 5 January 1988; the record company was renamed Sony Music Entertainment on 1 January 1991, and from 2004 its business outside Japan went into the Sony BMG joint venture with Bertelsmann.[^wiki-sonymusic] It was the parent of Sony's national record companies, among them Sony Music Entertainment (Finland) Oy.[^discogs-label]
