Philips, legally Koninklijke Philips N.V., is the Dutch health technology company and former consumer-electronics maker that Gerard Philips and his father Frederik founded in Eindhoven in 1891 to make incandescent lamps. The business was converted into the limited company N.V. Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken on 11 September 1912, the incorporation date the trade register still carries, and the legal name changed to Philips Electronics N.V. on 6 May 1994, to Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. on 1 April 1998 and to Koninklijke Philips N.V. on 15 May 2013.[^wp-philips] It is entered in the Dutch trade register under number 17001910 with its legal seat at High Tech Campus 34 in Eindhoven, while its global headquarters has been in Amsterdam since the 1998 move.[^gleif-philips][^wp-philips]

No company stands above Philips: it is a listed company, traded on Euronext Amsterdam as PHIA and on the New York Stock Exchange as PHG, and its GLEIF record reports no ultimate parent, with the reason given as "no known person".[^wp-philips][^gleif-philips-parent] The page exists here as the owner of PolyGram.
