EMI Music Publishing is a London-based music publisher, owned by Sony Music Publishing, whose catalogue includes the Motown songbook and songs by Carole King and Queen.[^wiki-emimp] It began with the EMI Group's entry into publishing in 1958 and took its name in 1974.[^wiki-emimp] In 2006 it and Sony Music acquired the New York label and publisher Or Music.[^nyu-miller]
After Citigroup took over the EMI Group in 2011, a consortium led by Sony bought the publisher for US$2.2 billion, completing in June 2012; Sony held about 30 per cent and administered the whole catalogue.[^wiki-emimp] Sony Music Publishing raised its stake and completed the acquisition in November 2018, and since then the company has continued as a name for the songwriters signed before 2012.[^wiki-emimp]
