## About <!--about-->
Chesebrough-Pond's was the American consumer-products company that made Vaseline petroleum jelly, Pond's creams, Q-Tips swabs, Cutex nail products, Prince Matchabelli fragrances, Ragu sauces and Bass shoes.[^upi][^gale] It came into existence in 1955, when the Pond's Extract Company merged with the Chesebrough Manufacturing Company, Consolidated, the business Robert Chesebrough had built on Vaseline since 1870, and was incorporated that year as Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.[^gale][^wikichesebrough] Unilever bought about 95 per cent of its stock in a $72.50-a-share tender offer completed on 30 December 1986 and closed the $3.1 billion acquisition on 10 February 1987, after which Chesebrough-Pond's continued as a wholly owned Unilever subsidiary.[^upi] It is the direct former owner of the Vaseline brand on this site, which passed to Unilever in that deal.[^upi]
