Sensodyne is a brand of toothpaste and mouthwash for people with sensitive teeth, owned by Haleon and sold in Japan as Shumitect.[^wikipedia-sensodyne] It was first marketed in 1961 by Block Drug, a New York company founded in 1907, as a desensitising toothpaste based on strontium chloride, and a potassium nitrate paste followed in 1980. SmithKline Beecham, which became GSK, bought Block Drug in 2000, and the brand passed to Haleon when GSK spun off its consumer healthcare business in July 2022.[^wikipedia-sensodyne][^wikipedia-haleon] In the United States the Repair & Protect line uses stannous fluoride as its active ingredient.[^dailymed]
