## About <!--about-->
Philips Classics is the classical music banner of the Philips record label, founded in 1950 as Philips Phonographische Industrie by the Dutch electronics company.[^wp-philips] Philips became a PolyGram label in 1972, and from the early 1980s most of its releases used the Philips Classics banner; its label code is LC 00305.[^discogs-philips] After Seagram acquired PolyGram, the label became part of Decca Music Group Limited in London in 1999, and Decca stopped issuing classical music under the Philips name from 2010.[^discogs-philips] Pianist Alfred Brendel recorded for Philips for decades.[^wp-philips] The stub is keyed Philips Classics to keep it apart from the Philips electronics brand; discs credit the label as Philips.
