Old El Paso is a brand of Tex-Mex-style foods owned by General Mills, covering dinner kits, taco shells and tortillas, taco seasoning, sauces, rice and refried beans.[^gm-brand][^wikipedia] It began with the Mountain Pass Canning Company, which canned tomatoes and pinto beans, and Old El Paso was registered as a trade mark by 1938.[^wikipedia] Pet, Inc. took over the brand in 1968, and Pillsbury acquired it in 1995 when its parent Grand Metropolitan bought Pet; General Mills now owns it.[^wikipedia] In 1969 it became the first national brand to offer a full line of Mexican meals in US supermarkets.[^wikipedia]
