Belgian chocolate brand founded in 1883 by Charles Neuhaus, a chocolate maker in Schaerbeek near Brussels, who named it after the Gold Coast, the old name of Ghana and the source of much of his cocoa.[^wiki-cotedor] Its elephant emblem dates from 1906, and the brand passed through Alimenta, Jacobs Suchard and Kraft General Foods before the 2012 Kraft split put it with Mondelēz International, its present owner.[^wiki-cotedor] The range covers tablets, mignonnettes, pralines and the Chokotoff toffee introduced in 1934.[^wiki-cotedor][^wiki-chokotoff] Packs are signed "Côte d'Or — since 1883" under a shield bearing the elephant.[^front-2018]
