Capitol Records is an American record label, founded in 1942 by songwriter Johnny Mercer with Buddy DeSylva and Glenn E. Wallichs as the first West Coast-based label of note in the United States.[^wiki-capitol] The British group EMI bought it as its North American subsidiary in 1955, and it passed to Universal Music Group with EMI's recorded music business in 2012; it now sits within UMG's Capitol Music Group.[^wiki-capitol] Its headquarters, the circular Capitol Records Tower near Hollywood and Vine, was completed in 1956.[^wiki-capitol] Frank Sinatra recorded for Capitol in the 1950s and early 1960s, and the label reissued those albums on remastered CD from 1998.[^series-blog] The Capitol logo signs the spine and back cover of its releases.[^pack]
