Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, known everywhere simply as Siemens, is the German technology group working in industrial automation, building technology, rail transport and medical technology; it names Berlin and Munich as its two headquarters cities and is a component of the DAX index.^[1] It was founded on 1 October 1966, when the new company legally and organizationally absorbed Siemens & Halske AG, Siemens-Schuckertwerke AG and Siemens-Reiniger-Werke AG, the three parent companies whose common line runs back to the Telegraphen-Bauanstalt von Siemens & Halske of 1847.^[2] It is entered in the commercial register of the Amtsgericht München under HRB 6684, with its legal and headquarters address at Werner-von-Siemens-Str. 1 in Munich, and holds the LEI W38RGI023J3WT1HWRP32.^[3]

Siemens is the company that Siemens & Halske was merged into in 1966. The half share in the Philips record joint venture that Siemens & Halske had taken in 1962, and which was renamed PolyGram in 1972, was held by Siemens AG from that merger until Siemens sold the interest in 1987, leaving Philips the majority shareholder of PolyGram and its Deutsche Grammophon label.^[4][1] No company stands above Siemens AG: GLEIF records both its direct and its ultimate accounting consolidation parent as reporting exceptions with the reason NO_KNOWN_PERSON, meaning no legal entity consolidates it.^[5][6] Its shares are widely held: the largest single shareholder is the founding Siemens family with a stake of 6.9%, while about 62% is held by institutional asset managers, the largest being two BlackRock divisions, and strategic holders such as the State of Qatar's DIC Company and Norway's Government Pension Fund each hold around 3% or less.^[1]
