About Samick Musical Instruments
Samick Musical Instruments Co., Ltd. is a South Korean musical instrument maker listed on the Korea Exchange (KRX: 002450). It was founded in 1958 as Samick Pianos.[1] Besides its own Samick brand, it makes pianos under names such as Wm. Knabe & Co., Kohler & Campbell and Seiler, and guitars under Greg Bennett, Silvertone, Stony River and San Mateo.[1]
Samick took over most of Matsumoku's OEM guitar contracts when that Japanese maker closed in 1987. It has built guitars for Squier, Epiphone and Washburn, and it built Kramer guitars for Gibson from 1998 until 2009.[1] In 1990 it set up its own guitar brand and worked with designers including the American luthier Greg Bennett.[1] It bought the German piano maker Seiler in 2008. In 2010 it held 32% of Steinway Musical Instruments.[1]
