About HSBC Holdings
HSBC Holdings plc is the ultimate holding company of the HSBC banking group; its subsidiaries are arranged in four regional groups, with HSBC Asia Holdings Ltd holding the Asian business, including The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.[1] It has no corporate parent: its Legal Entity Identifier record reports no consolidating parent above it,[2] and its largest shareholders in early 2024 were BlackRock with 8.9% and Ping An Asset Management with 8.82%.[3] It is registered at 8 Canada Square, London, as company 00617987, incorporated on 1 January 1959.[4]
Incorporated in England and Wales as a dormant shelf company, it became the parent of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation on 25 March 1991, bought Midland Bank in 1992 and moved the group's head office from Hong Kong to London in 1993.[3] Its ADRs trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker HSBC, and it files with the US SEC under CIK 1089113.[5] It is at the top of the chain above HSBC International Trustee Limited, the trust company named as ultimate holding company of Del Monte Pacific.[6]
